AD | Exploring Creativity with Perthshire Artisans
Each Perthshire Artisan’s story reveals varied careers, interests and different creative learning. It is this diversity which makes their work so individual and engaging. Some pursue perfecting their specialism, making it easy to categorise their work into one creative genre, however many naturally enjoy working in a variety of creative ways.
There’s a great deal to be gained from spending time working outside a chosen specialism, switching between different mediums, changing the scale of work or shifting to a different form of creativity altogether. It can reveal new exciting ways of working which may feed back into their existing practice, often resulting in greater productivity, new subject matters or products, or at the very least feeds the creative soul.
Dave Hunt has a background in commercial and fine art photography, including working with the traditional wet plate collodion process from the 1850’s. Yet more recently he’s explored his style through other mediums including painting and sculpture. By combining different styles of working and with his current preference for painting figures and abstracts in oils, Dave’s individual style is clearly visible across all his work. By experimenting and continuing to fuel his creativity, Dave is extending and developing his artistic approach resulting in beautiful original artworks, some of which can be seen on the website.
Maria Theresa Moerman-Ib’s creative practice is also multi-faceted. Having studied photography at art school, Theresa was encouraged to apply whichever medium best expressed her ideas, and this freedom and willingness to combine different art forms and techniques continues throughout her creative practice today. Describing herself as a knitter, photographer, poet, writer and artist, Theresa’s work includes hand spun knitwear to poetry and running writing workshops.
Cornelia Weinmann’s background of painting and printmaking feeds into her textile work as her focus has shifted to work more sustainably, creating high quality garments that last a lifetime and giving a new lease of life to second hand textiles.
Similar to cross-pollination, the ideas and knowledge of working in one genre inspires innovation when working in another. Explore the varied work and creative stories of the Perthshire Artisans on www.perthshire-artisans.scot and on social media.
