AD | Strathmore Open Studios
Held throughout the Strathmore valley, from Rattray to Glamis, and running over a period of four days from the 23 - 26 May, this event gives you access to more than 50 artists and makers in their own studios and galleries. From painting, glass and ceramics, to a variety of unique textile designs and stone & woodwork design.
Visiting exhibiting artists gives you a unique insight into their work, methods and inspirations. In each location you will have the opportunity to buy one-of-a-kind creations directly from the creators themselves. Many artists also offer the chance for tailored commissions. Also, don’t forget to check out the many locations offering demonstrations, workshops and a chance to see our artists and makers at work. Brochures detailing the weekend will be available in various local venues throughout April and May.

Community Arts Project: Art for All
Strathmore Open Studios has set up a Community Arts Project: Art for All, believing that everyone possesses inner creativity and wishing to foster creative confidence. We hope that the project will create opportunities for guided and supported access to artistic development. We want to appeal to all age ranges: from helping with the young people’s art competition in Alyth, to developing dormant skills in adults and taking creativity to the less mobile or elderly.
Viewing pieces of art develops curiosity, fosters interest in the range of possibilities, and stimulates the imagination. To this end we encourage all visitors to the SOS venues to chat to exhibitors, all of whom are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their work. We want to grow strong partnerships between artists, visitors and local groups.
During the exhibition there will be a sign-up sheet at each venue: if you are interested in taking your own artistic challenge further, or would like to hear about possible group activities, please do ask exhibitors for it to register your interest. You will be asked for contact (email) details, your age range and area of artistic interest (so that we can tailor workshops appropriately). Children participating in the workshops will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Everyone who registers will be notified of follow-up events. The exact location and timing will depend on numbers and the availability of expertise to facilitate the workshops. We very much hope that this will stimulate, or perhaps even start, an exciting artistic journey!
